DJI – Mavic, Spark or Phantom?

While DJI may be a safe choice when it comes to quality, you still have to pick between a range of different products. Buying your first drone can be a daunting task, but don’t let it scare you away from the purchase all together. There are a variety of factors to consider when determining which drone is right for YOU.

The cheapest option in the range of DJI products is the Spark.  At $499 USD, it is described as “A fun mini drone with all of DJI’s signature technologies”. If you’ve never purchased a drone before, looking to purchase one to get your feet wet, and learn how to use this type of technology, the Spark is the perfect choice.

While it doesn’t boast all the impressive specs the other DJI models do, if your intentions are for personal and not professional use, you might not necessarily need all the advancements. With the capability of 1080p video resolution and a weight of only 300 grams, you can’t go wrong.
The second least expensive drone that DJI offers is the Phantom 3SE.

Screen Shot 2018-04-12 at 12.08.02 PMAt $599 USD, it is capable of 4K video resolution at 30fps, and a 25 minute flight time. The only downside to consider is its size and weight. Non-foldable, the Phantom 3SE weights 1236 grams and it’s dimensions are 289.5 × 289.5 × 196 mm (L×W×H). If you’re going to be travelling with your drone, this could pose quite an issue. Other then it’s size, this drone offers a great bang for its buck.

The highest quality drone is the Phantom 4PRO, by far.

Priced at $1499 USD and weighing in at 1388 grams, it is also the most expensive and heaviest drone DJI offers. If quality is the most important factor to you, and size/weight, and price are not an issue, look no further than the Phantom 4 PRO. Great for professional use, this drone is capable of 4K video resolution at 60fps, making it perfect for slow motion video as well. It has an image resolution of 20 megapixels (the highest of any model), a max flight time of 30 minutes, a mechanical shutter, 5 directions of obstacle sensing, and a dual band 7 km video transmission.

If you intend on doing a lot of travelling, the best choice for you is the Mavic Air.

Screen Shot 2018-04-12 at 12.34.13 PMThis drone is king when it comes to portability, as it can fold up and compact into a case that can literally fit in your pocket. Many of us have so much equipment already that the thought of carrying another large bag or case is out of the question. Whether you’re travelling on planes, buses, or hiking for miles, it’s nice to know you have a lightweight drone that won’t drag you down when you’re on the go. With a weight of 430 grams, and folded dimensions of 168×83×49 mm (L×W×H), you can’t go wrong.

If you’re worried about its specs, don’t be. The Mavic Air is quite impressive for it’s size, containing a 3-Axis Gimbal, 4K video resolution at 30fps,
3 directional environment sensing, and an advanced pilot assistance system. If you have a little extra money to spend, this drone is definitely worth it at $799 USD.
